Agents of Entropy

From the order at the origin
To utter chaos within a blink
The ruthless march of time has begun
Before there were even minds to think

From the singularity burst
A quantum of the infinite
Hurtling helplessly through spacetime
Ambiguously different

Along the arrow of time, it flies
Unidirectional by design
Defying elegant symmetry
Sacrificing order to sublime

Resplendently calamitous
Silent agents of entropy
Conspiring to bring disorder
To our ordered philosophy

Many eons were spent evolving
Molding from the primordial clay
A nascent consciousness soon emerged
Seeking order from the disarray

Many minds began in earnest
To find meaning in the abstract
Unable to wrestle answers
From experience that they lacked

They set out to blindly discover
A new philosophy in the dark
Never knowing the complexity
Of this journey they soon would embark

When witnessing cause and effect
They were unable to resolve
Why an egg can’t be unscrambled
Another puzzle to be solved

While each spatial dimension affords
Movement along any direction
Time seems to resists this symmetry
In physics greatest insurrection

With time as the fourth dimension
Yet directions can be reversed
Why did agents of entropy
Prevent time from being traversed

Many evolved minds struggled greatly
Seeking a place among errant dust
Though determinism seemed to prevail
It was reality going bust

Deeper down the black hole they dove
Observational logic fails
Stubborn agents of entropy
Prevent elegance to avail

In arrogant juxtaposition
Convenient simplicity be damned
That wayward quantum of infinite
Defies all entropy out of hand

Crashing through the temporal gate
Arriving before it departs
This paradox of entropy
Brings it all right back to the start

The singularity burgeons
Agents of entropy now retire
Chaos coalesces to order
One last infinite quantum of fire
