Signposts at the edge of town

It seems sometimes that happiness is merely the absence of fear or the omission of discontent. We perceive happiness as a singularity that can only exist in wholeness and absolutes; black and white. The truth is there are infinite shades of grey and what we perceive as happiness may be far too ambitious a goal to attain.

Finding happiness in small, palatable doses ensures a steady diet of pleasure compared to a starve and binge approach. Our pursuit of happiness is often mired by the insistence on perfection; some unrealistic expectation from life and the quest for purity is seldom satisfied. Instead we stand on the outside of town and await the invitation to peace yet we are missing the signposts that stand starkly before us. These signs point towards paths that seem less likely to satisfy our yearning yet the old adage stands true;

The right thing and the hardest thing are the same.

So through a liberation and because of this release of impossible expectations I have found happiness. Not the overwhelming gluttonous portions I had demanded but a measured quantity that satisfies my hunger while keeping my desire unabated.
