Sitting here fireside bathed in the ghostly starlight it occurs suddenly to me that it’s not for the heat nor the light that we kindle this fire tonight. It’s for the gathering that the fire promotes. It’s about the family and the friends and the glory of our common bond. The flame beacons us and the raging fire inspires us to sing song, write poems, fall in love, wage wars and stare absently at the very ghosts of the stars burning brightly for the moment and take pause to enjoy the impermanence of our lives before its too late.
