Diner Coffee

I choose to treat religious discourse like coffee at a diner: When someone puts their hand over the cup, that means they are done. It could be because they have had enough or their cup is already full. Perhaps they didn’t want coffee in the first place and only took what they did out of courtesy. Perhaps they’re one of those people that just don’t need coffee to get going. Who knows! Whatever their reason may be, in the end it’s not for the waitress to make any assumptions about the specifics. She can just graciously move on to the next person and be done with it.

So to all the purveyors of diner coffee out there, don’t take it personally or presume to know the reason some of us chose to pass and please, whatever you do, don’t pour hot coffee on our hand.
