On The Nature of Reality

Did I dream this life
And am I still asleep
A quick slip down the rabbit hole
Leads to a trip to the underneath

I spiral down the emptiness
Where up is down and down is out
Tiptoe through absurdities
Too curious to think about

I venture out among the chaos
Wander down to depths unknown
Explore the realms of uncertainty
Prepare to have my mind blown

The plummet is exhilarating
And the deeper down I travel
Connections to reality fade
While strands of sanity unravel

The paradox unfolds before me
Challenging my belief in fate
Perceptions veer off center
Crash through the guarded gate

Am I recalling this correctly
Or mis-remembering a dream
Did I just imagine the ending
Is this all part of the scheme

Was now once then
When there was once here
Did I steer too far off course
Am I succumbing to the fear

That nothing out here is real
Reality is on demand
What we think that we perceive
Are motes slipping through our hand

From dream to hallucination
Perceptional integrity quakes
Qualia strains under the weight
My sanity finally breaks

One last chance for salvation
I circle back objectively
Abandoning this mind indulgence
I surrender subjectively

Desperate and dusty I emerge from the hole
Frayed senses held loosely for now
And so concludes this ill advised trek
In my never-ending quest for Tao
