Attention: All Would-Be Social Media “Slacktivists”

The world has grown weary of your toothless rationalizations. Your conditional “I hate racism- BUTs” and your equally banal “why can’t we all get along” sentiments echo hollowly down the corridors of history. I realize we are all striving to make sense of this chaos but there comes a time to put the anger back in our voices and action behind our words. I share in your frustration and as a white man struggle to find an appropriate response that doesn’t feel contrived, guilt ridden or woefully inadequate. 

There may in fact be little any one of us can do to slow the hemorrhaging of hurt brought on by past, recent and future injustices but together we can raise the decibels of discord and scream in the face of hate. We do this with the voice of our vote. It’s time to cast aside runaway partisanship, lay down the tools of systemic racism and give every elected empty shirt a brutally honest job review wholly prepared to chuck the whole lot of them out on their asses, regardless of affiliation, regardless of preference and with a complete absence of ego. 

The time to pepper Facebook feeds with threadbare aphorisms and neo-patriotic bullshit is passed. Pay attention to what your favorite official is saying and more importantly DOING durning this crisis and vote accordingly!
