We took a trip across the inland sea
To an island beyond this place
Where the music played and beckoned me
And the natives were warm with grace
There we found equanimity
A place just this side of perfect.
Absent was any hostility
That we have grown to expect
Instead, we found the kindest folk
Offering the bounty of their spirit
Where words may fail, music spoke
Sweet melodies to all who could hear it.
The music had called so persistently to us
“Come now, hasten, don’t delay”
That we had spared not a moment to discuss
Just to hear that sweet music play.
As the night languidly unwound
Full of acceptance without condition
We felt blessed by the new friends we’d found
Despite any territorial tradition.
We paddled back in rapt silence
Towards the light of our native shore
We’d championed the night without violence
Drunk on the spirit the music had poured.
