One More Song

Randy was an old-school rocker
Forged from the metal generation.
But more than that, he was a brother
And member of the Dream Police nation.

Met him in a bar back in ‘05
Sitting in the corner, so forlorn
I asked him if the seat was taken
And from there a friendship was born

There we’d while away the hours
Bonding instantly over rock music
And though a decade lay between us
We both loved KISS, Floyd and Cheap Trick

So whatever happened to all the seasons?
Moments keep ticking away
How do you account for the lost time
Without sounding too cliche

The years rolled by and the friend grew
Into a brother I could truly count on
Who shined like a crazy diamond
And I just can’t believe he is gone.

The news caught me unprepared
We had plans in just a few weeks
Headed to the dark side of the moon
Where the music quite clearly speaks

It was God that gave it us in the end
A rock ‘n’ roll suite playing all night long
And though I’m grateful for the years we shared
I just really wish we had one more song.
